Another reboot? This time it's personal...

Hello there!  It appears I've neglected this blog for quite some time (other than posting my weekly #shereadstruth memory verse designs).  Honestly? I've been quite down-in-the-dumps after not getting the job I interviewed for about a month ago.  All these negative thoughts started filling my head: you're not good enough, you've failed at getting into grad school, you've failed at getting a job, all your hard work was/is pointless, you'll never go anywhere... yeah. ICK.

I find it kind of funny that people think that Christians live perfect lives or that they are never depressed or that they get everything they pray for.  The truth is, we STILL struggle and still get depressed and still have unanswered prayers.  BUT, the truth is, we can survive through all these things because we have faith in an all-powerful, all-loving, all-merciful, and all-perfect God! A God who has only good things in store for us.  So when times of struggle hit hard, it's important to keep faith and have a hope that endures...

It's easy to give up. It's easy to lose hope. It's easy to blame God.  But no one said faith is easy.  If it was, our lives would be SUPER boring!  By seeking His truth in ALL circumstances, by finding joy in suffering, by constantly giving praise to our Creator, we can fulfill our purpose in the life given to us.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4 NIV)
So this week, I decided it's time for a REBOOT.  Time to change my negative way of thinking and to seek out joy in my current situation.  Time to do the best that I can, not just for myself, but for the glory of God.

So here are 5 positive things that have occurred in the past few weeks:
1.) Matt got a job at the Apple Store - a HUGE blessing.
2.) My brother visited a few weeks ago and we had an awesome day trip to New Orleans.
3.) Daily encouragement from the #shereadstruth community to stay in the Word
4.) Working on some neat craft projects
5.) Obsessing over My Little Pony : Friendship is Magic and getting the songs stuck in my head all day. You simply cannot watch that show and not have Pinkie Pie's crazy positive energy rub off on you!! :)

Rejoice. Pray. Give Thanks.

LEGO Jewelry Love!

A couple weeks ago, I entered a blog giveaway over at Hannah's blog, Happy Days.  Well, I won and the owner's of The Fingerpost Shop contacted me and asked what color earrings I would like, what my favorite item in their shop was, and my shipping address...turns out they had a few surprises planned!

First of all, their packaging is all kinds of awesome and personally decorated:

Then I opened up the envelope to find a handwritten note of congratulations for winning Hannah's giveaway:

And I found not only the yellow earrings...but a BUNCH of other amazing items from their shop!!

This geek girl was all kinds of excited upon opening this package :)  Thanks Hannah, Brae, & Damien!

And I'm definitely purchasing their LEGO lightsaber necklace and/or earrings ASAP :)

Science Saturday 2.11: Leap Second, Oxygen Injections, & Birth via MRI

Tonight just before midnight, we will experience a rare event called a leap second - just before midnight, the time will be 23:59:60 UTC (coordinated universal time).  This occurs because time is measured two ways: the rotation of the Earth and an atomic clock based on the vibration of atoms.  Every once in a while, these two time measurements get out of sync.  So by adding one second to the atomic clock, it holds time back so that it becomes coordinated with the physical rotation of the Earth.

Researchers are able to keep rabbits alive by bypassing damaged lungs and injecting oxygenated microparticles directly into the bloodstream where the oxygen is taken up by the red blood cells.  Rabbits with damaged windpipes were able to survive "for up to 15 minutes without breathing, and had normal blood pressure and heart rate."  This has the potential to prevent cardiac arrest and brain damage caused by low oxygen levels.

A live birth was captured by MRI at a hospital in Germany.  Coined "cinematic MRI," the video lets doctors visualize the internal process of labor and delivery and can help future management of care for these particular practices.
